Boys night out…

DSC03501
Retail giant, Arcadia have recently shown a whole lot of loving to the boys and have expanded the Topman at Oxford Street, introducing new directional menswear labels in addition to the ever improving Topman range.

In conjunction with Time Out and Smirnoff, last night they held a special boys night out for a few lucky guests.
The evening was a chance to see the new-look store, get a free hair cut, free session with a stylist, buy clothes at reduced prices and of course, drink vodka cocktails.

Let’s face it, shopping in the Oxford Circus Topshop or Topman is usually a nightmare of catastrophic proportions. ‘GET ME OUTTA HERE, BEFORE I KILL MYSELF!’ is usually the thought going through my head, as I get pushed all over the place by teens hoping to get ’spotted’ by the phantom model scouts and the sweat begins to run down my back, under those 200 degree lights….

So an opportunity to shop in peace was very attractive and I trotted along with the boyfriend, to see if we could spice his wardrobe up a little.

After a few attempts to get him to try a range of wooly cardigans and slim fit jeans, I realised that he was not going to trust the girlfriend’s choices. (I think the fact that I like men in harem pants, kinda scares him)…So off we went to visit the personal stylist, who was on hand to give advice and pick out some pieces for him to try on.

And here he is, after Harry (the stylist) had worked some of his magic…
(can i just add… the MOvember moustache is so frikkin HOT on you, Carlos!)

The jacket and denim shirt were purchased! woop

And all around me, it was refreshing to see the boys getting some style salvation.

Well done Topman.

Lulu Guinness is making my breakfast…

A few weeks ago I was invited to have a little one on one with the gorgeous Lulu Guinness and get a good look at her latest design project.

Now you’re probably expecting me to start talking about a new bag in the shape of an ear or a purse that looks like a telephone but in fact, Lulu has branched out…

The iconic designer has teamed forces with Comet, to design something special for everyone’s homes and you’ll probably never guess what it is so here you go….

IMG395

That’s right, it’s a toaster.

And although you may laugh at first, just take a closer look….  This is a very lovely little toaster.

Baring the same red lips seen on her trademark purse design, the toaster somehow began to arouse my style senses and by the end of our Connaught Hotel soiree I was eager to get my pre-order in!

The most beautiful thing of all, is that Lulu is keeping it real and making the limited edition toaster accessible to us all, with a very friendly £34.99 price tag.

Just think about it – Lulu will essentially be making you breakfast forevermore…or well, at least until it breaks.

You can buy yours online from today and it will be in stores from November 13th.

Have a peek at her cute little vodcast right here.

Happy (fashionable) toasting!

H! by Henry Holland…

H! is the ’soon to drop’ collection, designed by Henry Holland especially for Debenhams – Yes, Holland is the latest designer to go all High Street on our behinds and last night I went to preview the collection and guzzle the wine at the launch party.

Curious to see how much Holland was actually left after tailoring the collection to suit the (not so adventurous) Debenhams style; I went along, wearing my House of Holland tights and with camera in tow…

(What I wore: House of of Holland for Pretty Polly tights, dress by Motel, scruffy wedge boots by Bertie)

The mannequins displayed the extensive Spring Summer 2010 collection and I was pleasantly surprised.  Although a clear ‘high street’ stamp was written all over most pieces, it still had a certain Holland-esqe vibrancy, which most fashion seekers will be very pleased to find for affordable prices.

I was particularly partial to some of his footwear. Neons and paisley prints everywhere.

Henry was darting around the party, chatting with guests and working his quiff.  We had a quick chat about his collection and my cheap perfume. Nice.

Was I the only one to notice that the Dj was spinning some SERIOUS tunes? “pappa don’t preach”

Although momentarily stunned by a truly awful rucksack (words can not desrcribe how bad it was), I was really pleased with the range as a whole.

Floral print dresses, denim waistcoats, leather hot pants, distressed Tshirts, crop tops and heels.  This collection is for the Alice Dellal/Alice in Wonderland in us all. Love it.

My conclusion: Get yourself straight to Debenhams in February next year, when the collection lands in store.  Those heels are going to fly off the shelves.

Coveting Camilla…

IMG405

Camilla Skovgaard’s heels are currently the objects of my affection.

The Danish footwear designer, has a knack for combining quirky and feminine styles in her shoes and on a recent trip to her London PR company, I was salivating at the sight of her summer 2010 collection.

I defy you – male or female – not to fall in love with a pair of Camilla’s beautifully crafted shoes. You won’t be able to get them out of your little love-struck head.

I just spotted these from the current collection on the Net-A-porter site…

There is something resonant of Nicholas Kirkwood in her designs but with less aggressive statement styles and more wearable and girly finishes. I have a lot of lady love for you Miss Skovgaard. winkwink*.

XXX rated – too much on a Tuesday?

Tuesday nights are for TV and home cooking. Not for partying with Right Said Fred, Jodie Harsh and Mel B.
Yes, you read it correctly – Right Said Fred were gracing the stage at the Vitamin Water party, in celebration of the launch of their new flavour; XXX triple berry.

The RSF boys, who do alopecia chic so well, were a sight to behold (in a positive sense). Mel B was also a sight to behold (in a negative sense) – WTF was the blonde wig about, Mel?

The various cocktails were yummy – made with cava, vodka and of course vitamin water. They were also super strong, which helped me to get over my annoyance after waiting in a slow and unnecessary queue.

I partied the night away and got up to lots of mischievous shenanigans with my gorgeous friend,  Justino Esteves

All in all, a fun night was had by all and when I awoke with a hangover on Wednesday, I was very glad to find the bottle of XXX triple berry water in my bag. yum.

Moving and mozzarella…

shot001-0025
vintage ‘hand-me-down’ dress from a friend, junior D&G belt, vintage boots

Sorry for the absence. The last few days have been hijacked by moving house, watching Question Time, drinking in Dalston, eating the most delicious buffalo mozzarella EVER and losing the will to live…

I’m exaggerating a little but OH DEAR GOD; moving house sucks on a donkey willy sized level but it’s done now and I have beefed up those biceps.

My new flatmates welcomed me with a sunday roast for champions. Heaven.

Now it’s just a case of unpacking and adjusting to the new surroundings.

If you’re in Camden, pop in for a herbal tea ;)

Oli Oli Oli, Oi Oi Oi!…

Although it’s one of my favourite pastimes; I just don’t always have time to go shopping anymore. And thankfully, I’m not the only one, which is one reason we’ve seen such a great influx of online reteailers such as Asos and every week a new high street retailer or high end designer, launches their e-commerce site.

Recently, I’ve been watching Oli.co.uk and they just seem to be getting better and better.
I keep spotting some genius items which are available at equally genius prices.

These python wedges and the extended hem coat are on my current wishlist…

One thing I’ve already crossed off my list is this gorgeous studded dress, as it landed in my wardrobe last week…
